Jeff Nixon Distinguished Service Award

The Jeff Nixon Distinguished Service Award may be bestowed upon an eligible member of the Maine Water Utilities Association who has demonstrated, in the opinion of the Selection Review Committee, that he or she has provided two or more of the following:

  • A career of service to a Maine Water Utility.
  • A demonstrated dedication and commitment to the Maine Water Utilities Association over a period of ten years of more.
  • Outstanding contributions to the water works profession in Maine.

To be eligible for the Jeff Nixon Distinguished Service Award, the nominee must be a current or past Individual, Associate, Retired, or Honorary member of the Maine Water Utilities Association, or a current or past employee of the Maine Water Utilities Association. Previous recipients of this award are not eligible.

Nominations can be made by any member or employee of the Maine Water Utilities Association, or any trustee or governing board of a Maine water utility. Nominations must be presented in writing to the Executive Director of the Maine Water Utilities Association prior to December 1 of the year in which the award is to be made. Nominations shall be accompanied by a statement setting forth the reasons for the nomination.

The Chair of the Selection Review Committee shall first screen all nominations for eligibility. He or she shall then send the nominations and supporting data of all eligible nominees to all members of the Selection Review Committee prior to December 15. The selection shall be by elimination whereby a plurality of the Committee members voting shall indicate a successful nominee.

The Selection Review Committee shall be composed of the following individuals:

  • Current President of MWUA (Chair).
  • Executive Director of MWUA.
  • Chair, or designee, of the MWUA Program Committee.
  • Chair, or designee, of the MWUA Education and Operations Committee.
  • Chair, or designee, of the MWUA Legislative and Regulatory Affairs Committee.
  • Chair, or designee, of the MWUA Public Awareness Committee.
  • Chair, or designee, of the MWUA Water Resources Committee.
  • A representative of the Maine Drinking Water Program.

The award shall be a plaque or certificate signed by the President of the Maine Water Utilities Association and a gift certificate in the amount of $100.00. Presentation of the award shall be made at the annual Conference of the Maine Water Utilities Association by the recipient’s supervisor(s), the Chair of the Selection Review Committee, or the Executive Director of the Maine Water Utilities Association.

The Maine Water Utilities Board of Directors must approve any changes to these rules.
