This one-day program is focused on all level managers or those in supervisory positions interested in improving their understanding of management concepts. This program will benefit those in water or wastewater utilities and those who are in municipal offices making personnel decisions.
The program will cover topics related to motivation, performance feedback, and a discussion of reasons why employees don’t perform. Also review of disciplinary actions. There will be group activities (communications, interviewing, handling issues presented in case studies), short lectures, guided discussions, and a short quiz relating to supervision. The program is provided in an active pace throughout the 6–hour session.
Instructor Jon Jewett is the Town Manager for the Town of Hardwick, Vermont. Hardwick is a small town (pop. 3,000) located at the threshold of the northeast kingdom in Vermont. He has held this position for 6 years. Prior to working for Hardwick, Jon worked for 7 years as the facilities manager for the Waterbury State Office Complex in Waterbury, Vermont. The Complex houses 1,500 employees and all major state agencies. Jon has a total of 38 years of experience with water and wastewater facility operations, workers’ compensation, health and safety and facility management. He has a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) from the University of Vermont and is a nationally certified environmental trainer (CET). Jon has taught seminars in facility operations, microbiology, hydraulics, math, train the trainer, and management throughout New England and New York. Jon lives in East Montpelier, Vermont.
