General Manager – Kennebec Water District

Due to a pending retirement, the Kennebec Water District (KWD) is seeking applicants for the position of General Manager (GM).  The GM manages the KWD workforce and reports to KWD’s elected ten member board of trustees. The GM serves as the District’s CEO.

KWD is the public water supplier for the communities of Waterville, Winslow, Fairfield, Benton and Vassalboro.  KWD has 25 full time employees and a significant infrastructure including a 12 million gallon per day capacity filtration facility. The KWD treatment system is Class 4 and distribution system Class 3. KWD has an approximate annual operating budget of $5,000,000.

This is a salaried, professional position offering a competitive wage and benefit package. The position requires a strong business, municipal or utility background to address administrative, managerial, technical and financial issues.

Candidates should possess at minimum a Bachelor Degree from an accredited college preferably in engineering, finance or management with a graduate degree desired.  Experience in utility, municipal or regulatory operations an advantage.

Candidates shall display strong communication skills, written and oral, both internally and externally. Other characteristics sought include business, organizational, and financial acumen, technical aptitude necessary to manage utility infrastructure, and experience dealing with the public and regulatory, union and political issues.
